Beginning a New Adventure

It already seems like such an age since July when my degree ended. During the space between then and now there has been a lot happening. Firstly, I made the decision to leave my job of six years as a bar manager in the famous Herefordian pub The Barrels. They had looked after me well for my time there. I started out scrubbing the sump pit in the cellar and ended up as acting duty manager (during managers holidays), so one could say I literally went from the depths to the heights. Alas, I could’t take it any more, drunken customers and the smell of alcohol. So I made the decision to go full-time freelance filmmaker.

One of the most remarkable things about making this decision was how fast I managed to build up my workload and client-base in such a small city (that literally has nothing happening in it). There is no two ways about it, I have been incredibly lucky.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with folks like the Rural Media Company and working with other talented filmmakers on a journey around the UK documenting the revolution happening within the world of cask conditioned beer.

But here I am. Where my heart truly lies. Writing. Truth be told, I’ve been writing since I was around ten years old. In a freelance capacity, I work as a production assistant/post-production assistant, camera operator, sound recordist and an editor. Though, none of these are my speciality. I always come back to writing. It’s always been writing.

So I begin on my new quest of exploring the opportunities of the world of screenwriting. This MA is the door that I needed to walk through, though the corridor beyond is infinitely long and uncertain… I know there is a small light at the end, I’ll keep walking until I get there…
